Insurance: KVG/LAMal, LCA/VVG, reimbursements
Is physiotherapy covered by Swiss health insurance? +
Yes. Physiotherapy is covered by mandatory health insurance (KVG/LAMal) with a medical prescription. Centre de Physiothérapie Dounia is KVG/LAMal approved. Coverage applies after your annual deductible and a 10% co-payment.
Do I need a prescription to see a physiotherapist in Switzerland? +
For KVG/LAMal reimbursement, yes. Without a prescription, certain services remain accessible at private rates or covered by supplementary insurance (VVG/LCA) depending on your policy.
How many physiotherapy sessions does KVG/LAMal cover? +
A standard prescription covers 9 reimbursed sessions. Beyond that, your doctor can write a medical report to extend coverage.
Is lymphatic drainage covered by Swiss health insurance? +
Yes, for recognised medical indications (lymphoedema, post-surgical), lymphatic drainage is covered by LAMal with a doctor's prescription.
I am an expat — how does Swiss health insurance work for me? +
All residents of Switzerland must hold Swiss basic health insurance (KVG/LAMal), regardless of nationality. Once enrolled, you have the same physiotherapy coverage as Swiss nationals. Contact us if you need guidance.
